Unanswered Call Summer 2003
|
|
The American Embassy in Tehran is overrun by "student radicals" and America plunges into a 444 day nightmare. CIA operatives, Damon Layne and Hayden Burke, are assigned to support Operation Eagle Claw (the failed American rescue attempt) and a much darker operation called eagle strike. |
| The Chinese Ministry of State Security hatches a plot to co-opt the American Presidency and position itself to become the dominant power in the next century. Two operations are launched: Goldenrod and Mongoose to establish deep cover agents. |

CIA spymaster Louis Edwards establishes a secret operation to combat the burgeoning Communist threat in Nicaragua. Damon Layne, Hayden Burke and Adrian Bridger run an arms-for-drugs operation to the Contra rebels out of a sleepy airport in Mena, Arkansas. |
| Terrorist cells sponsored by Syria, Iraq and Iran ratchet the stakes by bombing the Beirut Embassy twice and the Marine Battalion barracks. Louis Edwards dispatches Damon Layne to deliver a message of retribution. Hezbollah responds by seizing British and American hostages. |

In a struggle of wills between the Iranian Mullahs and the American President, a secret war rages from isolated Iranian villages to Beirut's green line to the cocaine soaked streets in Panama. The task falls to Louis Edwards and his dwindling cadre of operatives. They step across the all legal boundaries only to be caught in a no man's zone as Iran/Contra explodes across the headlines. Edwards black operation metamorphoses into a take-no-prisoners / winner-take-all free fire zone. |
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
The quotation at the beginning of this book refers to Petty
Officer Robert Dean Stethem. He was beaten, tortured and killed during the 17
day long hijacking of TWA Flight 847. While being beaten, he refused to denounce
the United States. On October 21, 1995 the USS Stethem was commissioned
in Robert’s memory. The motto for DDG 63 is “Steadfast and Courageous” —enough said.
History is a curious thing and rarely does it occur in a bubble.
Firewall is a historical novel, and the first book in the Terror Wars
series, covering the
modern terrorism war. It recounts the war prior to the fall of the Soviet Union
(1979 – 1989). As such Firewall has a number of historical characters.
I have attempted to remain faithful to the historical time lines and events.
With minor exceptions, all news reports, memos and quotations appearing the head
of each chapter were derived from public sources.
